Voz Latina Radio project wins its 12th Gabriel Award

August 17, 2007

Gabriel AwardFamily Theater Productions has won another Gabriel Award for a Voz Latina Radio Spanish-language program, Dia de los Muertos: Celebrando la Vida y la Muerte: Naciones y Culturas in the category of Spanish-language Documentary, National or Local Radio Release.  The presentation ceremony for the Gabriel Awards, sponsored by the Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals, will be Oct. 26 at the Directors' Guild of America, Hollywood. This is the 12th Gabriel Award along with three Gabriel Certificates of Merit and the 31st overall industry award that Family Theater Productions has earned for its Voz Latina Radio programs since their initial release in October 1997.

The Gabriel Awards, named after the archangel, recognize outstanding artistic achievement in programs that respect and uplift the human spirit. These awards are sought by major TV and radio networks and independent broadcasters and producers throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Dia de los Muertos: Celebrando la Vida y la Muerte: Naciones y Culturas (Day of the Dead: Celebrating Life and Death: Nations and Cultures) is a one-hour, three-tiered documentary, comparing Halloween/All Hallow's Eve/Day of the Dead holidays in the USA, Ireland and Mexico. This program was narrated by actor Armando DiLorenzo, who has acted in many other Voz Latina Radio programs. The Radio Department at Family Theater Productions produced Spanish and English versions of this latest Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead program.

"Because of the extensive research and traveling (US, Mexico and Ireland), this particular documentary was six years in the making," said Monica Castagnasso, Director of Family Theater Productions' Radio Department and producer of the program. "There were a lot of people at Family Theater Productions and Holy Cross Family Ministries who provided assistance, guidance, support and prayers for this program. This was a team effort and a team win."
